Maurizio Lamponi
An italian designer, innovative and eco-friendly, Maurizio Lamponi is known for his passion for the design, green innovation and sustainability.
A talented designer, acknowledged for his green innovation, creativity and beautifully designed creations. His design products are locally made in Milan, Italy and support the original authenticity of his design products.
His design products are perfect for furniture and home decoration, made for a modern living and approved by nature.
His lamps are pure art, besides being sustainable and eco-friendly in the way the raw materials are sourced. Indeed he only engages defective scrap pieces, which are rescued before being brought to the landfills or from flea markets. He reuses old scraps and recycled materials in the construction of lamp; while reusing and recycling is his philosophy, he also pays attention to the style and a cool design.
Not a ‘reuse’ or ‘recycle’ like we all usually know it, in order to slow down an extreme consumerism, but a true love for some kind of shapes that sometime suggest him the transformation or sculpture they will reborn from.
Nowadays ‘words like ‘reuse’ and ‘recycle’ are in fashion, but that is not his philosophy. To Maurizio this is just a speculation encouraged by the growing interest in the ‘let’s stop the pollution’ movement. With this excuse we see all kind of objects around, without a soul, put together lovelessly just to astonish and amaze, with the only result to be bought to be soon garbage again. This because they are designed to have a brief life and they only represent an image to consume. Maurizio disagrees with this way of being a designer.
"If the headlamp on a classic Vespa or Lambretta scooter can illuminate a twisting Italian roadway at night, why couldn't it light up a desk?"
In the hands of Milanese artisan Maurizio Lamponi Leopardi, the polished chrome, handlebars, and headlights of the iconic 1960s motorbikes now find new uses in gorgeous halogen lamps.
His story begins in a scrap yard (in Milan dialect ‘rottamat) where he went with a friend of his seeking a spare piece for his car. In that chaos of al those pieces of metals, plastic and so on he saw a cool one, roundy and intriguing, it was the carter in aluminium of an old polisher, the one with three brushes. With some efforts he managed to pull it out from the metallic sea. It was fantastic, he didn’t know why he fell in love with it immediately without even knowing what he would be able to do with it. Once home he cleaned and polished it, he found it really nice and that very moment he decided he should give it a new meaning. It turned into a lamp, the first one for a long series to come. Yet today when he sees his first creation’s picture he has tender feelings and he is fascinated by its feminine shape.
The job he has done so far was generated by his desire to give back to all these forgotten objects their life and function, objects whose shape was born to be the a machine shell-like to be used in a certain way and, once depleted its function, it was ready to scrap itself along with its shell.
Yet the shell was still looking very nice, why destroy it? In Maurizio’s opinion, all this ended with the items created during the sixties, because after that we only had plastic products. He believes in having fun. He loves to play. He keep doing what he used to do when he was a child, he breaks and rebuilds, putting together all the pieces from different objects, to fulfil his juvenile dreams and fantasies.
What is left to do otherwise? What pushes one to live? Isn’t it the desire to achieve one’s ambitions? Aren’t they the same dreams we had when we were kids and we looked at the world amazed by it? Who can still amaze oneself?
Maurizio does have an explanation nor a clear idea, but he is still amazed when he acknowledges he is able to walk, to see, to smell the country side, without even realizing all that lie inside our bodies.
So why trash an art creation man-made if it can still be a good one?
He recalls when he was a child and he used to create game scenario for his toy soldiers. He dreamt of be one of them in that game, to be part of their world and chat with them, create and participate!
Just a though. Perhaps we are actors and creators at the same time in the Universe. Perhaps we empathize so much in this world big game that we lost memory of that amazing being that we all are. Perhaps.
